Getting ready for fall travel? Here’s how to pack for a trip to Alaska in just a carry-on plus outfit inspiration for what to wear in Fairbanks in late August.
I just got back from a few days in and around Fairbanks, Alaska and had a great time. Like with any other trip, dressing the part was important and I packed outfits based on the activities on my itinerary. Even aside from outfits, there were a few essentials to pack for this Fairbanks, Alaska vacation. If a trip to the North is on your bucket list and you don’t quite know how to fill your suitcase, start scrolling for my tips on how to pack for an Alaskan autumn vacation.

While planning this trip, I looked up how do people dress in Fairbanks and the results were overwhelmingly casual. I noted that and incorporated a bit of my own style–bright colors, luxe fabrics, and a little rich auntie flair–to still both confident and comfortable. So, what is the weather like in Fairbanks in August, anyway? It is chilly, with lows in the low 40s and highs in the mid 50s. Of course, late evenings and early mornings are cooler. So it’s advisable to dress in layers. Check out what I wore during this trip followed by a women’s Alaska packing list for this time of year, which also works for the spring weather, by the way!

Thank you! This was super helpful. I’m going to Fairbanks in 3 weeks and I was wondering what to pack. Is bug repellent still needed at the end of October? Aren’t the mosquitos dead by then? 😳 Any other helpful hints would be appreciated! Thanks! 🙂
Hi, Ivette! So glad this post was helpful to you. I traveled late August/early September so I can’t speak to whether the mosquitoes will still be around end of October but you can always purchase repellant once you arrive if you find that you need it. My only other tips is just to stay present in the moment and enjoy yourself and it will be an amazing trip.
