Photo Walk of Central Amsterdam

On my way to Lagos last month, I had a seven-hour layover in Amsterdam. There was no way I could sit in the airport for that long so I researched and made a plan to explore a bit while there. One of my coworkers frequents the city and gave me helpful pointers on what to see and do in that short time. It was about 7:00 am on a Thursday when I landed and it was King’s Day–a celebration of The Netherlands’ current monarch, King Willem-Alexander. The city was just waking (and cleaning) up from a night of partying in anticipation of the Dutch national holiday and officials were in the early stages of decorating for a block party. You’ll see orange banners and balloons to signify this. I took a subway style train from Schiphol Airport to Central Station (The train ride is just 15 minutes and costs about five Euros as of this posting.) and walked around central Amsterdam for a few hours in different directions from there.  Start scrolling to see what I saw. 🙂
