Wondering where to stay in Dominica? Let me break down all the details of staying at Jungle Bay Dominica for your consideration. This honest review is based on my solo six-night stay in Dominica during the springtime.
And if you enjoy this article, you’ll love my Dominica vacation itinerary, too!
Would I recommend this property?
First of all, I would absolutely recommend staying at Jungle Bay Dominica. Reviews I read in advance mentioned good staycation and vacation experiences but I couldn’t find any specifically for solo female travelers so wasn’t sure what to expect.
This sustainable property is a locally owned luxury eco-resort that truly feels in harmony with nature but still has comfort in mind. I thoroughly enjoyed the lush, beautiful grounds with plants and small critters lining every walkway. The smell is heady with the aroma of flowers, coconuts, and other fruits. In fact, guests are welcome to pick and eat the fruits while visiting.
There are so many things to do at the resort and in the surrounding area. I opted for the adventure wellness package, which was such a great value, in my opinion, because it included all the excursions and activities I wanted to take part in while in Dominica. Plus daily spa treatments, meals, and roundtrip airport transportation.
Where is Jungle Bay Dominica located?
Jungle Bay resort is located in the town of Soufriere on the southwest side of the island off the Caribbean Sea. Here are fun things to do while in Soufriere!
Whether you’re coming from Douglas-Charles International Airport (DOM) or the new airport slated to open in 2025, it will take about half an hour to get to Jungle Bay, depending on traffic and road conditions.
Roundtrip airport transfers were included with my stay and both the pick-up and drop-off experiences were easy. I was greeted with fresh guava juice upon arrival and the ride was beautifully scenic.
Personally, I don’t recommend driving in Dominica unless you’re experienced but, if you decide to do so, here’s the address for your Google Maps or GPS: Morne Acouma, Soufriere, Dominica

Amenities
Dining at Jungle Bay Dominica takes place in their onsite restaurant, which overlooks one of the pools and Scott’s Head. The menu rotates daily and with the season and everything is overseen by Chef Wendy (pictured above). Breakfast and lunch were buffet style and dinner was full service. I particularly liked the Jungle Bay house salad, fish soup, fresh juices, and the rum punch–which took me DOWN for the count. My tolerance is officially low.
I’ll note that the adventure wellness package is not quite all-inclusive so alcoholic beverages were billed separately. Check out all their vacation packages to find exactly what you’re looking for.
Pool: includes two pools with stunning views, chairs, umbrellas, cabanas, etc. The infinity pool overlooking Scott’s Head is located right off the dining room.
Beach Access: Bubble Beach is just minutes away by car or on a downhill walk into town where you’ll have access to kayaking, paddle boarding or world-class diving. If you’re visiting for free-diving, Jungle Bay is one of the best places to stay in Dominica.
The Spa experience was one of my favorite parts of the stay. The Adventure Wellness package I opted for included daily 30-minute spar treatments so I visited five times. I highly recommend the Jungle Bay massage–it was fantastic and I’m still surprised by how relaxed I became in just 30 minutes. Other services I took advantage of include the back massage, sore muscle massage, pied mol foot massage, and spa pedicure. Everything was excellent (especially after strenuous hikes) and the walk to the spa felt like part of the experience.
Activities and excursions from the resort occur daily and range from garden tours to Caribbean cooking classes to iconic Dominican hikes and sightseeing. These were included in the Adventure Wellness package or can be added to your stay a la carte.
Gym: Instead of a basic fitness center, Jungle Bay offers instructor-led yoga classes at their studio as well as hiking, kayaking, and other active experiences in the nearby mountains, sea, and jungles.
Wifi was fast, reliable, and available across the property.
Parking is available onsite and free for guests. I visited without a car so can’t speak to the ease of parking.
Which Room to Book
There are two types of accommodations at Jungle Bay: Villa Rooms and Villa Suites, with options to have a view of the ocean (partial or full) or the garden. All of the rooms and suites are constructed from local sustainable materials and appointed with thoughtful touches.
I stayed in an ocean-view villa suite which was spacious and comfortable with distinct indoor and outdoor areas, including a terrace facing the ocean and a shower room with a retractable clothesline for drying off swimwear and hiking gear.
In my solo-traveling opinion, this lodging was big enough for two or three people so it could work for an individual, for couples or for a family. I had a lot of room to spread out and never felt cramped.
Just about everything I needed was available and housekeeping service occurred daily. The only thing missing was an iron or steamer–though, it’s possible one could have been brought had I asked but I didn’t need to do any ironing.
As Jungle Bay villas are in sync with nature, I didn’t need white noise to sleep well at night. The birds and bugs provided a relaxing soundtrack–but don’t worry they stayed inside!

For Solo Travelers
As a woman visiting Dominica alone and for the first time, I did not have any safety issues or moments of unease on this property. And I think the way that Jungle Bay structures its experiences–from communal dining to daily group activities–makes it easy to meet people and socialize as much as you might want to.
Indeed, I made some friends on the excursions, enjoyed local vibes on the beach, and had dinner companions each night. And when I wanted to be in my own world, I retreated to my room and watched exotic birds eat fruit from the trees right outside my window.
Here are my top tips for solo female travelers!
