When I booked horseback riding in Cozumel, I wasn't sure what to expect. It was a nice change-up from typical island activities, but there are definitely a few things I'd do differently next time. Let me break down exactly what you need to know before you go!
And if you enjoy this post, you'll love my list of things to do in Cozumel, too!

Where to Go for Horseback Riding on the Beach in Cozumel
Right now, the most well-known and established horseback riding excursion in Cozumel is at Mr. Sancho's Beach Club. When I was combing through Mr. Sancho's horseback riding reviews, it was described as the only true beach ride on the island, and from my experience, the excursion is a mix of shaded jungle paths and bright and sunny oceanside ones!
The year-round weather is warm and humid, with peak temperatures in the afternoon. I visited on a balmy July day, but was able to stay comfortable.

How to Get There
I rented a car at the CZM airport and found driving in Cozumel to be easy. Other options include local taxis, the EIBY Taxi App, or hiring a shuttle.
Either way, the address for Mr. Sancho's is Carrera Costera Sur KM. 15, 77600 Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico. Lock it into your GPS!
If you're coming from the cruise port, the ride will take about 15 minutes, and there was a revolving pool of taxi drivers doing drop-offs and pick-ups when I was there.

What You'll Need
You'll need cash (pesos or USD) or a card if you want to buy food and drinks at the beach club or add on any of the other on-site experiences. And I highly advise you to bring sunscreen and bug spray.
As far as what to wear, keep it simple and functional. I was able to get by in my swimsuit, shorts, and sandals, but found they were not ideal. Here's what I recommend instead:
- Athletic shorts or leggings
- A tank top
- Closed-toed shoes or sandals with grip
- Backpack or cross-body bag so you can be hands-free while riding
- Sunglasses and/or a sun hat--this is my favorite roll-up travel visor!
If you plan to hang out at the beach club later, just layer your swimsuit underneath or bring a change of clothes.

My Experience Riding at Mr. Sancho's
After purchasing my ticket (currently $45 USD per person) and getting fitted with a wristband for beach access, I met my bilingual guide, Martín, and my horse, Tequila.
The ride started in the jungle, which was shaded and cooler than the sunny beach, but still quite humid. We followed the path at an easy pace, spotting different birds and iguanas along the way, and emerged near the shore about halfway through.
Martín was awesome and took a bunch of photos for me on my phone in case I didn't like the professional one that was included with the excursion! After the ride ended, I took advantage of the beach club access, ordered a frozen drink, and posted up in a quiet lounge chair.
I found the experience to be a good value, and would recommend it, especially if you plan on visiting Mr. Sancho's anyway. There's plenty to do to make a partial day trip out of it, whether you're visiting Cozumel on a cruise or for a multi-day vacay like I did.
