Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman Afternoon Tea Experience

I love seeking out unique experiences when I visit a new place and the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman afternoon tea experience is definitely a worthwhile one! In this post, I’ll tell you everything you need to know before booking your tea time, including what to expect and even what to wear.
Basic Things to Know
Afternoon tea is a distinctly British tradition that has spread throughout the United Kingdom, including Commonwealth countries via colonization. But the experience at the Ritz Carlton in the Cayman Islands has a tropical twist in the flavors and surroundings.
Reservations are required at least 24 hours ahead of time and afternoon tea is only offered Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.–so plan accordingly!
It’s carb heavy. You can expect an assortment of scones with sauces, sandwiches, and dainty dessert pastries. Although it wasn’t necessarily a balanced meal, I was full afterward!
Here’s the current adult’s tea time menu so you get an idea of what all is on offer.
How much is the afternoon tea at the Ritz with champagne? Currently, there are two options. Cayman Brac Tea which comes with your choice of freshly steeped tea and assorted finger foods for $50 KYD or the Grand Cayman Tea, which comes with all that plus a flute of champagne or signature tea time cocktail for $68 KYD.
I went with the champagne option because why not indulge on vacation, right? No regrets!
How to Get There
The Ritz-Carlton afternoon tea is offered inside the hotel, specifically at the Silver Palm lounge restaurant.

Dress Code
So, what do you wear to the Ritz for afternoon tea? There’s a general dress code for tea that recommends midi length dresses, skirts and blouses, and pantsuits for women and sport coats, ties, and trousers for men.
The Ritz London has even put out an etiquette guide for their tea service you might want to review. But afternoon tea on Grand Cayman is slightly different due to the tropical surroundings and, of course, the temperature.
So I wore a dramatic, off-the-shoulder blouse and tailored trousers–both in a bright shade of peachy pink with pearl statement earrings and a pink leather handbag.
And I noticed other guests embracing all the bright colors, patterns and prints, with slightly more skin showing. Sleeveless and off-the-shoulder necklines and midi to mini length skirts and dresses were all fair game but nobody was in shorts. I didn’t clock any pillbox hats or gloves either.
Even though the Cayman Islands dress code is pretty casual and sporty, jeans, sneakers, and athletic wear, including athleisure, are not acceptable for afternoon tea. This isn’t the venue to wear your swimmies and cover-ups, either.
The three-tiered platter served during afternoon tea is called an รฉtagรจre and traditionally, you eat from bottom to top: starting with the savory sandwiches, followed by scones, and finishing with desserts.
Is afternoon tea at The Ritz worth it?
In my opinion, an afternoon tea experience should be on your list of things to do in Grand Cayman. It was a nice change of pace from some of the other meals I enjoyed on the Island and I enjoyed the way local flavors were blended with this tradition from across the pond.
From my experience, the surroundings were lovely, food and drink were great, and service was excellent. I had noted my birthday as the reason for my trip (as a Leo, I celebrate all month long.) and they treated me to a festive slice of carrot cake, which happens to be my fave!
I didn’t quite know what to expect before visiting but to me, the ambience was relaxed and certainly fancy but not stuffy. 10/10 recommend.
I hope you have a fabulous Grand Cayman afternoon tea experience soon and very soon. And sharing is caring so be sure to pin this post for later and follow me over on Pinterest. Thanks for reading!
